Back when I was growing up in the Air Force, we moved around much more than service people do today. Because of this, we rented wherever we lived, never knowing when we may get orders for someplace new and have to vacate.
Having five children (and later six) often presented a problem for my parents. As soon as landlords learned that my family had that many kids, they’d envision five wild children destroying the place.
So my Dad came up with the idea of taking us with him, so that landlords would see first hand how well behaved we were. We’d receive instructions on the drive there about minding our manners and being seen but not heard, which never failed to impress the landlord. As a result, my folks were never turned down.Posted on: May 28, 2008, by : K.O. Morgan
